About our cause
This winter, almost 1 in 10 households in Cambridgeshire will face fuel poverty* - including families with young children, older residents, and people living with poor health.
Fuel poverty has a massive impact on both the day-to-day lives and long-term health of people facing the impossible choice between heating and eating.
- Children living in fuel poverty face challenges in their development, respiratory and mental health, as well as educational outcomes
- In adults, cold conditions can exacerbate existing medical conditions including diabetes, certain types of ulcers and musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions
- And for older people, cold temperatures can cause blood pressure to rise, increasing the risk of strokes and other circulatory problems
- the Institute of Health Equality states 10% of excess winter deaths are directly attributable to fuel poverty in England, and it’s estimated that 21.5% of excess winter deaths are attributable to cold homes**
The Surviving Winter Fund provides vital support to help vulnerable people stay warm, safe, and healthy through the coldest months.
When you support the Surviving Winter Fund by playing the Cambridgeshire Community Lottery, you’re not just in with a chance to win - you’re helping people in your community survive the winter.
For every £1 ticket you buy, 50p goes directly to the Surviving Winter Fund, bringing warmth and comfort to local homes that need it most.
Play today. Keep someone warm today.
